We are looking for all types of families, including Gonzaga students living off campus who could help the Japanese students experience American college life!

During the Summer English Language Program (SELP), students come from two universities in Japan to attend English language classes and to experience American life. The students spend the first few weeks of August living on campus in dorms or apartments. Their stay in America culminates with a week-long homestay that is often their most memorable experience.

Host families meet their students at a dinner on Friday, August 15. They are asked to bring the students to class Monday-Friday by 9am. Students can be picked up any time after 4pm. Host families are asked to provide breakfast and dinner (lunch on the weekend). The students fly out the morning of August 23. Host families can take their students to the airport or drop them off at Gonzaga. Host families can request male or female students. Host families receive a $300 ($150 per student) stipend at the Host Family Dinner to help defer the costs.

Hosts must pass a Washington State background check and home inspection. Arrangements can be made to help with transportation if necessary. If you are interested in hosting students please contact Melissa Heid in the International Student Programs office- heid@gonzaga.edu or x6560.
